Donation augments chancellor salary

Kansas University Chancellor Robert Hemenway will receive a 24 percent raise next year, thanks in large part to a donation from a KU graduate. Hemenway's salary -- which will go from $219,420 this year to about $272,711 next year -- was approved Thursday by the Kansas Board of Regents.

Jayhawk football coach Mark Mangino's base salary of $129,380 is the same as KU basketball coaches Bill Self and Marian Washington.
In Self's contract, he will also earn a guarnateed 400,000 in radio-TV packages.
Self also receives:
• two automobiles,
• membership in two country clubs,
• payment of reasonable in-state and out-of-state travel and entertainment expenses,
• permission to operate camps,
• payment of the annual premium on a $2 million term life insurance policy,
• regular health insurance, retirement and other fringe benefits.
