Plane maker Airbus and diversified manufacturer Honeywell International Inc. said Thursday that they are developing a biofuel that by 2030 could satisfy nearly a third of the worldwide demand from commercial aircraft, without affecting food supplies. The project will focus on converting biofeedstocks, including algae that does not compete with food or water resources, into fuels for airplanes. “Biofuels hold tremendous potential to meet growing fuel demand while reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions,” said Jennifer Holmgren, director of the Renewable Energy and Chemicals business for UOP LLC, a Honeywell company.

Kansas University senior Thor Nystrom, of Baxter, Minn., has gone from being sucked into the mental health system and attempting suicide to working his way back to health and graduating from KU since prescription drugs started wreaking havoc on his life in 2003. He will walk down the hill Sunday after earning a degree in journalism and plans to work as an intern for MLB.com.
