The portrait of a baby-faced Roy Williams soon will be replaced by a more mature-looking Williams on the walls of Allen Fieldhouse.
The portrait of Williams, Kansas University's 15th-year men's basketball coach, has been updated by artist Ted Watts of Oswego, who first painted Williams' portrait in 1991 after Williams qualified for induction into the KU Athletics Hall of Fame by taking the Jayhawks to the Final Four.
Williams also led KU to the Final Four in 1993 and 2002.
"Coach Williams' first Hall of Fame portrait came shortly after he arrived at KU and we wanted a more updated look," said KU associate athletic director of communications Doug Vance.
"This will replace the other portrait. Ted Watts does such a fine job. He's been doing this for us since the mid '70s. It's easy to see why he is a renowned Kansas artist."
Williams' portrait will be framed and go up on a fieldhouse wall later this summer.
Several other portraits of new KU Hall members are being painted by Watts.
Basketball standout Drew Gooden has qualified by being named first-team All America and national player of the year. Track athlete Scott Russell qualified by winning two events at nationals last year. Track coach Stanley Redwine will enter the hall for leading KU to a top 10 finish at indoor nationals.
Football players Willie Pless, John Riggins, Mike McCormack, Nolan Cromwell and Curtis McClinton will enter under the special admittance category. They had stellar careers, but weren't first-team All Americans.
