Terrorism attacks spark interest in KU courses on related topics

Good luck trying to enroll in Kansas University classes dealing with the Middle East, terrorism or Islam.
Spring courses on the topics have been filling up quickly as students try to understand the Sept. 11 attacks and their aftermath.

U.S. considering Afghanistan base

The United States is considering setting up a base inside Afghanistan from which commandos, and possibly conventional ground troops, would launch missions against Taliban and terrorist targets, defense officials said Monday.
This option, which Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld hinted at in a Pentagon news conference, could indicate the U.S. military is planning more aggressive moves against the Taliban, the Islamic militia that rules most of Afghanistan and harbors Osama bin Laden.

Airport safety is mired in politics

FBI: Be on highest alert

The FBI issued a new terrorism warning Monday asking Americans and law enforcement to be on the highest alert for possible attacks this week in the United States and abroad.
The alert was based on new information that was deemed credible but was "not specific as to intended targets or as to intended methods," FBI Director Robert Mueller said.
