About 30 people -- Kansas University students and staff, mostly -- gathered Friday outside Wescoe Hall for a noon rally aimed at protesting recent legislative efforts to censure professor Dennis Dailey for showing explicit videos in his class on human sexuality.

"Academic freedom is under attack in the state of Kansas," said Christine Robinson, a 34-year-old graduate student in sociology who helped organize the rally.

About a dozen speakers addressed the group, and students encouraged passers-by to take part in the protest.

Several student groups are planning a teach-in on academic freedom issues May 14 at Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave.
