Bobcats salvage soccer victory with late goal
Monday, July 30, 2001
By Andy Samuelson

To the average soccer fan walking around the Youth Sports Inc. soccer fields Sunday afternoon, the game between the 10-under Basehor Bobcats and KC Turner Bears probably seemed meaningless.
After all, neither team had won a game in their age group. Even the eventual winner of the contest was not going to be awarded a medal because of their previous defeats. Then when you factor in the heat and the fact parents were more than eager to get back home after a long weekend at the Sunflower State Games, it would be easy to understand how the kids could have been content with just getting this one over.

By Levi Chronister

The Sunflower Skyhawks played a mistake-filled final game Saturday in the U-18 softball division of the Sunflower State Games. Former Kansas University basketball player Steve Woodberry thinks Jayhawk basketball fans are a well-behaved bunch. Sure, some of them might be a little blasé about the game when Kansas is beating some no-name school by 45 points. But anyone who doesn't throw coins, batteries or other small, hard objects at him is fine in Woodberry's book.

Sport2Sport Jayhawks rally
Sunday, July 22, 2001
By Andy Samuelson

It's usually not very good news if a team loses badly in its first game of a short three-day basketball tournament. Such a loss can create negative attitudes by players and really pin a team's back against the wall as far as moving into medal contention. That is, unless such a team is able to bounce back like the ninth-10th grade Sport2Sport Jayhawks did this weekend.

Steve Bradt "I’ll guess $3.40 around here. Things seem tenuous with the oil supply, so I can see it getting that high. I hope not, but I can see it happening."
