Legislative salaries

Members of the Legislature receive the sum of $78.75 per calendar day for service at any regular or special session; the sum of $85 per calendar day for expenses; and an out-of-session expense allowance of $5,400 to defray expenses incurred between sessions of the Legislature; plus mileage, as provided by law.

Members attending any legislative business authorized by the Legislative Coordinating Council between sessions receive compensation, subsistence and mileage (assuming 12 days of meetings). (Online editor's note: Based on the above, the total annual compensation for rank-and-file members of the Legislature is approximately $22,117.50.)

The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House each receive $12,469 per annum for additional services in discharging their duties. (With their other compensation, the total is approximately $34,586.50)

The Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives each receive $11,249 per annum for additional services in discharging their duties. (With their other compensation, the total is approximately $33,366.50)

The Speaker Pro Tem of the House of Representatives, the Vice President of the Senate, and the Assistant Majority and Minority Leaders of both houses each receive $6,364 per annum additionally (With their other compensation, the total is approximately $28,481.50), and the chairpersons of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Appropriations receive $10,027 for additional services (With their other compensation, the total is approximately $32,144.50).

Members of the State Board of Education receive the sum of $78.75 per calendar day of actual attendance for authorized meetings plus subsistence allowance and mileage, as provided by law.
