Political and governmental experience: Elected to the Kansas House of Representatives, 1986-94; state insurance commissioner, 1994-present. Sebelius is the daughter of a former Ohio governor and daughter-in-law to a former Kansas congressman.

Issues: Sebelius pledged in her campaign to make public schools her No. 1 priority and to embark on a top-to-bottom performance audit of state government. She is pro-choice and has said she plans no changes to state abortion law. She has refused to take a no-tax pledge, but says she doesn't believe Kansans can afford higher taxes.
